INDUSTRIAL MINIMALISM
What happens when a tree falls and everyone hears it? What started out as a disaster - a mature tree crashing through the roof of a stately center hall colonial home in Haddonfield, NJ - set off a chain of events that resulted in an updated and reinvented home with industrial elements and a clean, contemporary feel. Improved circulation and better use of space are a few of the many benefits the comprehensive reworking of the ground floor and garage entry produced. A mundane mudroom was redesigned to offer a captivating route through the home, with architectural elements adding character and visual interest. Because the home was brick veneer (4” brick on top of a wood frame) instead of a solid brick home, it was much easier to make modifications such as relocating windows and adding a corner glass side entry to make the house work better. Opening up the kitchen and the front entry foyer made the house feel larger and also far more livable. The second floor embodies the industrial minimalist style the clients prefer, as does the reimagined and reworked addition. Originally designed to mimic the traditional home, a thoughtful rework resulted in a contemporary addition that contrasts and complements the brick home, shadowing it in dark hues of black and gray. The home welcomes you with light and airy spaces throughout; it is a seamless blend of traditional and contemporary.
